Aloe Vera

Scientific name: Aloe barbadensis

Origin: herbal
Family: Xanthorrhoeaceae, grass tree family
Category: Medicinal plant

Use and effect

The aloe vera plant thrives in dry, warm areas and its leaves have been valued for over 1000 years for their moisturising and regenerating properties. The plant contains a variety of active ingredients, including polysaccharides, enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins, which have proven their effectiveness especially in skin care. The ingredients of aloe vera strengthen the protective barriers of the skin, moisturise, have a soothing and decongestant effect and give it elasticity and resilience. For this reason, aloe vera extract is used in many body care products, sunscreens, decorative cosmetics and shampoos.

Aloe vera is also used as a food and the gel from the leaves of the plant is often processed into juices, smoothies or food supplements. These are said to have detoxifying and immune-boosting effects, but appropriate dosage is important, as large quantities can have a laxative effect.

Aloe Vera in cosmetics

For thousands of years, aloe vera has been used as a symbol of natural beauty and healing and has many uses in skin care and treatment. The high moisture content of the plant has earned it a good reputation in body care and it is included in many care products.

Aloe vera is known for its cooling, anti-inflammatory effect and is therefore often used as a natural remedy for sunburn. It can also help with severe burns by speeding up healing. Chronic skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema or neurodermatitis can also be successfully treated with aloe vera.

Aloe vera is particularly good for dry skin as it gives it a lasting moisture boost. A gentle exfoliation with aloe vera can help fight skin blemishes like pimples or viral skin conditions like herpes. It is also suitable for sensitive skin types.

Aloe Vera in hair care

The natural essence of aloe vera has also proven its worth in hair care. This moisturising plant, which grows in dry areas, nourishes brittle and fragile hair, smoothes the hair structure and activates the hair roots. Both skin and hair receive sufficient nutrients, and aloe vera can promise relief for flaky or itchy scalps.

Hair that is particularly dry and in need of care benefits from the nourishing properties of aloe vera. It moisturises the hair and smoothes it noticeably. Thanks to its active ingredients, which penetrate deep into the hair and right into the roots, aloe vera is also effective for hair loss: it nourishes the scalp, stimulates blood circulation and promotes hair growth.

Aloe vera smoothes the surface of the hair, making it more robust, less prone to split ends and easier to comb. If the scalp flakes, itches or burns, aloe vera can have a soothing effect and provide it with nutrients.
